Vinicius Jr. may have missed a crucial penalty on Wednesday night, but that didn’t stop him from making his presence felt on social media after Real Madrid’s dramatic penalty shootout victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16. The Brazilian forward didn’t hold back, taking a brutal dig at Atleti and their fans on X (formerly Twitter).

Following the match, Vinicius responded to an Atleti banner that read “This year, yes” by cheekily replying “This year, no”, emphasizing the fierce rivalry between the two Madrid giants and what the win meant to him.

He didn’t stop there, sharing more posts to further provoke Atleti supporters. One of his tweets read, “How do you feel?” alongside a photo of him pointing at the Champions League badge on Real Madrid’s sleeve. Another post followed: “Oh my god!!! THERE’S ONLY ONE MADRID!!!! But we all know that. Let’s improve next time!!!”, making it clear who he believes the true kings of the Spanish capital are.

The tie had been set up for a thrilling conclusion after Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu. The return leg at the Metropolitano lived up to expectations, delivering high drama from the very start.

Atletico stunned Madrid just 30 seconds into the match when Conor Gallagher fired them ahead, leveling the aggregate score. Both teams struggled to break the deadlock afterward, with Vinicius missing a golden opportunity from the penalty spot after Kylian Mbappe was fouled in the box during the second half.
