After missing out on France’s October and November international fixtures, Kylian Mbappé has now been recalled to the squad, ending speculation about his future with Les Bleus. Didier Deschamps had previously excluded the Real Madrid forward in October due to fitness concerns and kept him out again in November, labeling it a “one-off” decision.

Amid uncertainty over whether Mbappé would retain the captaincy upon his return, Deschamps confirmed that he will continue leading the team.

“I spoke with him, and we had a discussion,” the French manager stated. “He will be the captain.”

Mbappé also marked his return by posting an Instagram story with the simple caption: “Back.”

The 25-year-old was dealing with an ankle issue and was only cleared to start in Real Madrid’s Champions League round of 16 second-leg clash against Atlético Madrid after a late fitness test.

Addressing concerns about Mbappé’s condition, Deschamps remarked: “I don’t have any updates today; he played 120 minutes on Wednesday. When you play every three days, sometimes skipping training helps ensure you’re fit for matches. I hope the weekend’s games go smoothly for all selected players.”

On the international stage, Mbappé has an impressive record of 48 goals in 86 appearances, closing in on Thierry Henry’s tally of 51. The all-time record remains with Olivier Giroud, who is still nine goals ahead, but given Mbappé’s scoring form, he could soon surpass both French legends.

France is preparing for an exciting UEFA Nations League quarter-final against Croatia, with the first leg set for March 20 at Poljud Stadium in Split, followed by the return fixture on March 23 at the Stade de France.
