Manchester United have decided to tear down their legendary Old Trafford stadium as part of a bold plan to construct a brand-new, state-of-the-art arena with a 100,000-seat capacity, investing a staggering £2bn in the project. On Tuesday morning, the club unveiled a promotional video showcasing the proposed stadium, narrated by United icon Gary Neville. However, while some fans voiced their discontent with INEOS’ design, Ruben Amorim shared his candid thoughts on the redevelopment when asked about it on Wednesday.
Addressing the media, the Portuguese manager acknowledged the significance of the project but remained focused on the present. “It’s a fantastic stadium, as it should be, but that’s something for the future, five years from now. Right now, our priority is the present, and I’m eager to achieve success at Old Trafford,” he stated.
The 40-year-old also discussed his working relationship with United’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. “From day one, our relationship has been great. We are direct and honest with each other—that’s just who we are. I’ve always felt supported by the board and by Sir Jim. Our conversations? Simple, clear, and straightforward,” he explained.
Ratcliffe has previously defended Amorim despite the team’s struggles, acknowledging that the manager can be emotionally driven at times.
After last week’s 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in Spain, United will look to secure a victory at home in Thursday’s second-leg Europa League round of 16 clash, aiming to book a spot in the quarter-finals.
