AC Milan have reportedly completed the signing of U.S. youth international Astin Mbaye from the New York Red Bulls academy.
The 16-year-old, who holds an EU passport, is eligible to move abroad at his age, and despite interest from several European clubs and RBNY’s attempts to sign him to a professional contract, the Italian giants have secured his signature. Mbaye will now join fellow U.S. internationals Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah at Milan.
Fabrizio Romano initially broke the news, with GIVEMESPORT later confirming the transfer with additional details.
The New York Red Bulls academy has consistently developed top talent, most notably producing USMNT captain and Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams, as well as U.S. fullback John Tolkin, who now plays for Bundesliga club Holstein Kiel. The club also boasts one of MLS’s most promising young players in Julian Hall, a 16-year-old attracting interest from elite European teams.
Mbaye has been a key figure in the U.S. U15 national team, making six appearances and scoring in the December 2023 UEFA Development Tournament against Scotland. Recently, he received his first call-up to the U16 national team.
The last American defender to feature for AC Milan’s senior squad was Oguchi Onyewu, who played for the club between 2009 and 2011.
