Stefano Pioli compares Saudi Pro League with Serie A

Stefano Pioli

Stefano Pioli, the current manager of Al-Nassr and former AC Milan coach, recently addressed the ongoing comparisons between the Saudi Pro League and Serie A. Pioli emphasized that football has evolved significantly, making it difficult to directly compare the two leagues. He pointed out that the Saudi Pro League has made remarkable progress and developed its own identity.

Pioli’s comments came after Al-Nassr, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, secured a dominant 4-0 victory over UAE Pro League side Al-Wasl in the AFC Champions League Elite. The Italian coach, who took over from Luis Castro earlier this season, believes that each league has its unique characteristics and strengths.

Despite the impressive performances of players like Ronaldo, who has scored 15 goals and provided three assists in 17 games for Al-Nassr, Pioli maintains that the two leagues should be appreciated for their individual qualities. He also highlighted the competitive nature of Serie A, where his former team, AC Milan, finished 19 points behind the Scudetto winners, Inter Milan.

Pioli’s perspective sheds light on the broader changes in football and the growing influence of leagues outside Europe. His insights offer a valuable reminder that while comparisons can be made, each league has its own story and evolution.
