Jordan Henderson denied claims that he pushed for a move to Monaco, dismissing a journalist’s suggestion that Ajax’s coach had confirmed his desire to leave. The 34-year-old former Liverpool captain was visibly shocked when confronted with the accusation.

Restored as Ajax captain in a 2-1 victory over rivals Feyenoord, Henderson had reportedly declined the armband in the previous Europa League win over Galatasaray. Despite the speculation, he firmly refuted the claims: “The coach told you that I wanted to go to Monaco? Because I had a big offer? It’s not true.”

Henderson refused to discuss further details but acknowledged Ajax’s negotiations. He insisted he had always been willing to play and that no one needed to convince him. Reports suggest he assured Ajax’s technical director, Alex Kroes, of his commitment for the season. Under contract until 2026, Henderson earns around £66,000 a week at the club.
