Marcus Rashford quickly became a fan favorite at Manchester United after making his debut in 2016. Over his eight years at Old Trafford, he has shown flashes of brilliance but has struggled with consistency. In the past two seasons, the England international has failed to meet expectations, and his exclusion under new manager Ruben Amorim has left the 27-year-old considering an exit.

Rashford’s time at his boyhood club may be coming to an end. Former Tottenham Hotspur player Chris Waddle recently criticized the winger, calling him “bang average” and drawing comparisons to players like Dele Alli and Ross Barkley, who once shone at Spurs and Everton but ultimately failed to fulfill their potential.

Speaking to Prime Casino, Waddle remarked, “What’s he doing right now? They said he was ill for the Liverpool game, not even in the squad. No disrespect, but he’s not a youngster anymore. People talk about him like he’s 21, but he’s not. He’s had a patchy career. We all know he has talent, but we’ve seen this story before.

“Players like Dele Alli and Ross Barkley came onto the scene, burned brightly, and then faded away. Both were hailed as future stars but couldn’t sustain that level over their careers. There are so many players who were tipped to be the next big thing, and it just didn’t happen for them.”

With Rashford reportedly on the verge of leaving Manchester United in the January transfer window, Waddle suggested a change of scenery could benefit him. “The only person who can turn this around is Marcus Rashford himself,” Waddle said. “I expect him to move on, whether it’s a loan deal or a permanent transfer. He needs to get away, get back into the England squad, and prove how good he can be.

“He had that one standout season where he scored a lot of goals, but that’s becoming a distant memory now. Since then, he’s been bang average.”

Rashford’s potential departure could mark a significant turning point in his career as he looks to reignite the promise he showed early on.
