Inter Miami’s Luis Suarez spoke about the possibility of reuniting with former Barcelona teammate Neymar during MLS Media Day on Thursday. Suarez expressed his enthusiasm, noting that having a player of Neymar’s caliber on the team would undoubtedly bring excitement and quality.
The comments come as Neymar, whose contract with Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal ends in six months, has been linked to a move. Neymar recently told CNN Sport that he is open to the idea of playing alongside Suarez and Lionel Messi once again. However, he emphasized that he remains focused on his current commitment to Al Hilal and is happy in Saudi Arabia.
“Obviously, it would be amazing to play again with Messi and Suarez,” said Neymar, 32. “They are my friends, and we still keep in touch. Reviving this trio would be interesting. I’m happy at Al Hilal, and I enjoy life in Saudi Arabia, but you never know. Football is unpredictable.”
Suarez, when asked about the prospect of playing with Neymar once more, admitted he would love to but cautioned that nothing is certain. “Everyone knows what Neymar brings as a player. We had great times together in the past, but now we are in a new era, and we’re much older than we were back then,” he said. “As Neymar and others have said, anything can happen, but turning those hopes into reality is challenging.”
Inter Miami’s manager, Javier Mascherano, addressed the possibility of bringing Neymar to the club, stating that MLS salary cap regulations make such a move unlikely. “We can’t discuss Neymar because we have no means to sign him. He’s a fantastic player, and every coach would want him, but given MLS’s salary cap rules, it’s currently impossible,” Mascherano explained.
Neymar and Suarez previously formed a deadly attacking trio alongside Messi at Barcelona from 2014 to 2017, known as “MSN.” During their time together, they scored an incredible 364 goals across all competitions, making them one of the most formidable attacking forces in soccer history. Suarez contributed 180 goals, Neymar scored 138, and Messi tallied an astounding 219.
Since joining Inter Miami at the start of the 2024 MLS season, Suarez has made a significant impact, helping the club win the MLS Supporters’ Shield. He was also a finalist for both MLS MVP and MLS Newcomer of the Year, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in his debut season.
Meanwhile, Neymar has faced injury setbacks since his move to Al Hilal in 2023. He tore his ACL shortly after arriving, missing 330 days of action. He returned in the fall but suffered a hamstring injury in November 2024. Neymar has made only seven appearances for Al Hilal, totaling just 428 minutes of play since his high-profile transfer, which reportedly earned him $300 million over two years.
With MLS preseason fast approaching, Inter Miami is gearing up for the 2025 season. They will face Liga MX’s Club America on January 18 as part of their preparations.
