Nine-year-old Sammy Scott skipped school to attend Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal, claiming to be ill. His mother, Claire, informed Benton Dene Primary School of his sickness, enabling Sammy to travel with his dad, Mark.

However, their plan was exposed when Sky Sports cameras captured Sammy jubilantly celebrating Anthony Gordon’s goal in Newcastle’s 2-0 victory. Mark’s phone was inundated with messages from friends after the footage aired. The school later sent an email informing the family that Sammy’s absence would now be marked as “unauthorized.” Despite this, Mark praised the school’s understanding, adding that Sammy’s teacher is a Newcastle fan, and took the situation lightheartedly.

The incident garnered massive attention online, with fans and former players, including Peter Crouch, supporting Sammy’s passion for football. Sammy remains hopeful that Newcastle will progress to the final, allowing him to witness the team lift their first trophy in 70 years.
