Kevin De Bruyne, the 33-year-old Manchester City star and six-time Premier League winner, is reportedly close to joining MLS newcomers San Diego. With his current contract at City ending this summer, the Belgian playmaker appears unbothered about a renewal and is leaning towards a move to the United States rather than the Saudi Pro League.
San Diego, set to debut in the MLS this year, are reportedly in advanced talks with De Bruyne, as per The Athletic. This potential transfer comes despite De Bruyne regaining a starting spot under Pep Guardiola, even assisting in City’s 4-1 win over West Ham last weekend.
De Bruyne had previously expressed openness to new opportunities, stating, “At my age, you have to be open to everything.” If finalized, this move would see De Bruyne join San Diego as they face defending MLS champions LA Galaxy in their debut match on February 23, followed by a home opener at Snapdragon Stadium on March 1.
