Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Liverpool is nearing its end, with his free agency set to begin in the summer of 2025. La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid is reportedly making moves to sign him during the January transfer window.

Alexander-Arnold’s attacking prowess, highlighted by his impressive assist record, has caught the eye of the Champions League holders in Spain. However, his defensive abilities have often been questioned throughout his successful career.

Those concerns resurfaced during a Premier League match against Manchester United, where the Red Devils exploited weaknesses in his defensive zone, frequently breaking through and finding space. Roy Keane, commenting on the performance, told Sky Sports: “We praise Trent for his attacking qualities, but his defending today was shocking. It looked like something out of schoolboy football. There’s talk about him moving to Real Madrid, but with defending like that, he might be heading to Tranmere Rovers instead. He needs to do better.”

Liverpool’s city rivals quickly responded to Keane’s remark on social media, posting: “Trent to Tranmere, Roy? Nah, we’re good, thanks.” They accompanied the post with a picture of wing-back Cameron Norman, who had scored the winner in their last match against Carlisle.

In the match between Liverpool and United, Alexander-Arnold was involved in the build-up to the opening goal, as Lisandro Martinez fired in a shot off the underside of the crossbar from a tight angle.
