The Red Devils delivered one of their standout performances of the season, battling hard to earn a point at Anfield on Sunday. Despite the improved display, an understandably frustrated United captain Bruno Fernandes expressed disappointment over why his team couldn’t maintain this level of performance consistently, stressing the need to keep up this “standard” moving forward.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Fernandes said: “We’ve faced criticism, and it’s justified. Our position in the table speaks volumes, we’ve dropped too many points. Even today, we can’t be satisfied with just a point. We needed more, and we could have won the game at the end, but a draw is a fair result. Both teams played good football. I’m really disappointed. If we can perform at this level against Liverpool, the team at the top of the league, why can’t we do it week in, week out? It frustrates me. Personally, I finally delivered a proper performance. We’ve all said we need to do more to get better results this season. Coming back from 2-1 down and earning a point is good, but we need more. Now, we face a tough FA Cup tie against Arsenal, but we aim to reach the final again. We know how challenging it is to play against Liverpool. Today, we really put in the effort, showing passion and heart, and that’s what helped us take something from the game. It can’t stop here. We must carry this frustration into the next match and understand that this is the level we need to maintain. If we can do it at Anfield, we need to do it everywhere.”

Despite this fightback, United remain in 13th place in the Premier League and were on the verge of suffering a fourth consecutive league defeat—a streak they haven’t seen since 1979. Ruben Amorim’s team now needs to build on this result, or the new head coach might find himself under renewed pressure. United will shift focus to the FA Cup next weekend as they face Arsenal in the third round.
