Tottenham Hotspur have been struggling in recent weeks, with Ange Postecoglou’s team managing only two wins since the start of November. In contrast, Chelsea have been impressive this season, sitting comfortably in second place in the Premier League. Despite Chelsea’s strong form, Enzo Maresca believes Tottenham will have the advantage when Chelsea visit north London this Sunday.
Maresca shared his thoughts with the media, saying, “First and foremost, the fans will be there, no doubt. And secondly, we’re not the favourites, absolutely not. They’re playing in European competitions, just like us. But being second in the table doesn’t automatically make us the favourites, absolutely not.”
Chelsea’s excellent start to the season has led to speculation that they could challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title, a situation similar to Tottenham’s early-season form in 2023-24 before they faded and missed out on a top-four finish. Maresca emphasized that Chelsea are not focused on Tottenham’s decline as they look ahead to the rest of the season.
He added, “I don’t think we need Ange’s or Tottenham’s experience to understand that things can change quickly. Football is unpredictable, whether it’s in England, Spain, Italy, or any other country.”
Following the Tottenham clash, Chelsea will shift focus to the Conference League, with a Thursday trip to Kazakhstan to face Astana.
