Leicester City has officially appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager. The former Dutch international, known for his prolific goal-scoring career, will take over the Foxes following his impressive spell as interim coach at Manchester United.
Van Nistelrooy, 48, replaces Steve Cooper, who was sacked after just 12 Premier League matches in charge. The Dutchman has signed a contract until June 2027 and will take charge of his first match against West Ham United on December 3rd.
Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha expressed his excitement about the appointment, stating, “Ruud’s experience, knowledge, and winning mentality will undoubtedly bring great value to us, and we look forward to supporting him in achieving success for our fans and our Club”.
Van Nistelrooy himself is enthusiastic about the opportunity, saying, “I’m proud, I’m excited. Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the Club, the supporters, and, of course, the recent history of the Club is impressive”.
Leicester City currently sits just one point clear of the relegation zone, and Van Nistelrooy’s first task will be to steer the team away from danger. His previous managerial experience includes a successful stint at PSV Eindhoven, where he won the Dutch Cup.
The Foxes will be hoping that Van Nistelrooy’s winning mentality and tactical acumen can help them climb the table and secure their Premier League status for another season.
What do you think about this appointment? Do you think he can turn things around for Leicester?
