Things are starting to look more promising for Manchester United with the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, but some critics continue to find ways to target the club and its players. Neil Ruddock, a former player, is the latest to take aim at the Red Devils, particularly captain Bruno Fernandes, whom he has harshly criticized for personal reasons.
In an interview with 10bet, Ruddock stated: “The one player I want to highlight is Bruno Fernandes. I could have picked any of his Manchester United teammates as my flop of the season so far, but I’m going with the captain. I don’t like him. He’s annoying. He frustrates me. He’s constantly complaining, throwing his hands up in the air, and acting as if nothing is ever his fault. He doesn’t carry himself like a captain. He’s not following the example of past Manchester United captains when it comes to wearing the armband. He needs to behave better and just get on with it.”
While Ruddock is entitled to his opinion, Fernandes is far from being Manchester United’s biggest issue. The Portuguese midfielder has contributed five goals or assists in 12 Premier League matches during the 2024-25 season and will play a key role in leading the team through its transition under Amorim. Though he may occasionally show frustration on the pitch, Fernandes has proven his ability to deliver moments of brilliance over several seasons.
United fans have been eagerly awaiting their first win under Amorim, following a 1-1 draw with Ipswich last weekend. However, their upcoming home match against Bodo/Glimt presents a perfect opportunity to get their campaign under the new manager on track.
