Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has now commented on the situation, praising Yamal’s potential while emphasizing the importance of managing his injury carefully.
In a media statement, De la Fuente said, “Lamine has everything it takes to become a football legend. He’s only 17, and we must proceed cautiously with him, step by step. It’s crucial to be careful. The foundation of humility and professionalism is key to achieving great things, and the responsibility that comes with this is unavoidable.”
Following the announcement of Yamal’s injury, some critics speculated that the timing of the issue, just before the international break, might have been orchestrated by Barcelona to give Yamal the opportunity to rest rather than play for Spain. De la Fuente dismissed these claims, clarifying, “Barcelona, like all clubs, provided us with the relevant medical reports, and we felt it was unnecessary for him to travel again for further tests. We wish him a quick recovery.”
With Yamal out of the squad, Spain has called up Girona’s Bryan Gil to replace him ahead of their Nations League fixtures against Denmark on November 15 and Switzerland on November 18. Yamal is expected to recover in two to three weeks while continuing his treatment at Barcelona.
