Kylian Mbappé will miss his second consecutive international break after Didier Deschamps named his squad for France’s upcoming Nations League fixtures. Deschamps clarified that the decision not to include the Real Madrid forward was his own, despite Mbappé’s desire to be part of the team.
Mbappé’s absence comes during a tough period for the 25-year-old. His trip to Sweden last month was overshadowed by rape allegations, and his underwhelming performances since joining Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain have sparked criticism.
FFF president Philippe Diallo acknowledged that Mbappé is not currently in peak form but expressed hope that the 2018 World Cup winner will soon regain his best as France looks ahead to the next major tournament.
“[Mbappé] has had extensive conversations with Didier Deschamps. I have a close relationship with the coach, so I was kept informed of their discussions and his thought process,” Diallo told *Le Parisien*. “It was the result of these talks that led to this decision. Kylian is one of the best players in the world, but he’s going through a difficult period right now. However, I think everyone who loves football hopes he gets back to his best quickly—back to the player who amazed us in 2018 and 2022. We hope to see him lead France again, with the captain’s armband, as we target the 2026 World Cup and a third star.”
“I want to put this rumor to rest: whenever I’ve spoken to him, I’ve always seen Kylian as someone who loves the French team and respects the shirt he wears. I have no doubts about his full commitment, his leadership, and his behavior towards the group. Everyone goes through tough moments, and my only wish is that he returns to his best and takes his place at the head of the French team.”
While Mbappé will miss France’s upcoming matches against Israel and Italy, he will focus on getting back into shape for Real Madrid’s La Liga game against Leganés on November 24.
