His comments have sparked anger in Uruguay international and Galatasaray captain Fernando Muslera, who has advised Mourinho to leave the country if he disapproves of its football. The former Manchester United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid manager has also been linked to a return to the Premier League, with Newcastle United and Everton reportedly interested in his services. Mourinho, 61, has hinted at the possibility, suggesting he’d be open to managing a team in the bottom half of the Premier League.
In a recent interview with Turkiye Today, Muslera, 38, expressed his displeasure: “The insults towards Turkish football and his attacks on referees bother me. This is the first time in 14 years that I feel the need to speak out. I’ve won 17 trophies in 14 years, and my goal has always been to advance Turkish football.
“If Mourinho, who arrived here only four months ago, doesn’t like Turkish football and criticizes it, he’s free to leave. Though no one else has said anything, I think it’s time someone did. We need to focus more on those who are actually helping improve Turkish football.”
For now, Mourinho remains in Turkey, and Fenerbahce will next play a friendly against Zenit St Petersburg on Friday during the international break. Their next competitive match is on November 23, when they face Kayserispor in the Super Lig.
