Arsenal fans can rest easy as their captain, Martin Ødegaard, has confirmed that he will not play for Norway in their upcoming Nations League matches against Slovenia and Kazakhstan. Ødegaard made his first start for Arsenal since August in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, where he assisted Gabriel Martinelli’s goal.
Following the match, Ødegaard traveled to join the Norway squad, but after a medical assessment, it was decided that he would be rested to complete his rehabilitation.
The 25-year-old spoke to the press, saying: “After discussions with the national team’s medical staff, we’ve unfortunately agreed that I’m not fit enough to play these games.”
He continued, “I’ve undergone a long training process, and when you haven’t played football for the last nine weeks, it’s natural to not be at 100 percent. I need to listen to my body, finish my rehab, and get my foot back in top condition.”
Ødegaard expressed his disappointment, saying, “I’ve always hoped to play in these matches. If I hadn’t played on Sunday, it wouldn’t have been possible to join Norway. It’s a tough feeling to miss these games, as I love playing for Norway and with this team. But I have full confidence in the boys and wish them the best of luck—there are still great chances to win the group.”
The midfielder is aiming to regain full fitness and hopes to return for Arsenal after the international break when they face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on November 23.
