The Spanish midfielder, who claimed the Ballon d’Or in Paris last month ahead of Vinicius Junior, suffered an ACL rupture during a Premier League match against Arsenal in September. Initially, it was feared that Rodri’s season with Manchester City might be over, but he now hopes to return sooner than expected.
In an interview with the Spanish show COPE, the 28-year-old expressed his determination: “I plan to play this season. With seasons getting longer and the (Club) World Cup finishing on July 13, I’m aiming to return this year as a challenge. I’ve already started walking and feel better than I anticipated.”
Recent weeks have been tough for City, who have lost four consecutive matches for the first time under Pep Guardiola, including back-to-back defeats to Bournemouth and Brighton in the Premier League. They were eliminated from the Carabao Cup, suffered a humiliating loss to Ruben Amorim’s Sporting CP in the Champions League, and are now trailing Liverpool by five points in the league.
The reigning Premier League champions will look to bounce back after the international break when they face Tottenham in a challenging home fixture on November 23.
