Tony Mowbray, the former Birmingham manager, has bravely shared details of his ongoing battle with bowel cancer. The 60-year-old took over at St. Andrews after Wayne Rooney’s sacking in January but was forced to resign just a month later when he was diagnosed with cancer.
Mowbray described the illness as one of the toughest experiences of his life, revealing that his family feared the worst during his hospital stay. He recalled days when he felt great and others when he collapsed and blacked out. Mowbray underwent a ten-hour operation, which successfully saved his life.
Despite his health challenges, the EFL veteran expressed a strong desire to return to management, stating that football is in his blood. Although he’s not yet 100% ready to resume work, Mowbray remains hopeful that time will allow him to regain the necessary energy. He plans to take some time off with his wife and hopes to return to the game in the new year.
