Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard is rumored to be on the brink of a return to his former club Rangers due to his struggles managing Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. The 44-year-old manager has faced a rocky start in the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Ettifaq sitting in 12th place after just three wins in ten games, sparking criticism and boos from fans.
Club officials are reportedly considering Gerrard’s dismissal following a recent loss to Al-Qadsiah. Former teammate Danny Murphy believes that a return to Rangers, where Gerrard achieved significant success, could be a possibility. Gerrard led Rangers to an undefeated Scottish Premiership victory in the 2020-21 season, triumphing over rivals Celtic.
This season, Rangers have struggled under Philippe Clement and are currently third, trailing Celtic. Murphy noted that while it may be challenging for Gerrard to replicate his past success, a comeback and another league win over Celtic would be a major accomplishment. “Never say never,” he added.
