Viktor Gyokeres has solidified his reputation as one of Europe’s top strikers this season. Recently, he netted a hat-trick in Sporting’s 4-1 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League, raising his season goal tally to 23 from just 17 matches. Now, according to The Telegraph, he may be available for transfer this summer for around £63 million, despite having a €100 million (£83 million/$107 million) release clause in his contract.
Sporting acquired Gyokeres for only £20 million ($25 million), so a sale at £63 million would still yield substantial profit. Manchester United, who recently appointed Sporting manager Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, as well as Chelsea and Arsenal, have all shown interest given Gyokeres’ potential price tag.
Gyokeres previously played in England, amassing 116 appearances for Coventry and scoring 45 goals, 43 of which came for Coventry. He has also represented Swansea and Brighton.
After Sporting’s win against City, Amorim hinted that Gyokeres might leave in the summer, which will undoubtedly keep United closely watching his progress in Portugal. Sporting will face Braga this weekend in Amorim’s final match before he heads to Old Trafford.
