Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has lost his appeal against a five-game stadium ban imposed after an incident during Forest’s 1-0 defeat to Fulham in September. The 57-year-old was found guilty of improper conduct for allegedly spitting toward the ground as officials walked by following the match.

Marinakis denied intentional misconduct, explaining his action as an involuntary reaction due to a hacking cough exacerbated by his cigar-smoking habit. However, the appeal commission found his behavior deliberate, calling it “disrespectful and disgusting” and stating that his actions could incite further disrespect toward officials.

They emphasized the need for severe punishment to deter similar actions in the future. Marinakis, who has already served three games of the suspension, will remain banned for Forest’s fixtures against Newcastle and Arsenal. He is expected to return to the stands for the team’s home game against Ipswich Town on November 30.
