Mario Balotelli made his long-awaited return to Serie A after more than three years, receiving a yellow card just five minutes after coming on as a substitute during Genoa’s 1-0 win over Parma on Monday night.
The former Italy international signed with Genoa as a free agent last week after parting ways with Turkish Super Lig club Adana Demirspor when his contract expired in June. Although he was not part of the squad for the 1-0 defeat against Fiorentina last Thursday, he was included on the bench for the match against Parma.
Balotelli entered the game in the 85th minute, taking the place of Jeff Ekhator, who assisted Andrea Pinamonti’s winning goal in the 80th minute.
It took less than five minutes for Balotelli to earn a booking, as he received a caution for a foul shortly after the 90-minute mark.
In fact, Balotelli’s recent history shows he has collected both a yellow and a red card in just six minutes of play, as his stint with Adana Demirspor concluded with a red card in his last game of the 2023-24 season.
Genoa’s next match will be on Thursday evening, where they will face Como at the Luigi Ferraris stadium.
