Originally set to address this issue earlier, Paqueta’s appearance was postponed after his legal team successfully sought a delay. Now, he will face Brazilian senators as part of the broader investigation into illegal betting in the country.
In addition to this, Paqueta is also under scrutiny by the English Football Association (FA), which has charged him with four counts of spot-fixing, alleging he intentionally received yellow cards in 2022 and 2023 matches to profit gamblers. If found guilty, Paqueta could face a lifetime ban from football due to these alleged betting violations.
Paqueta has consistently maintained his innocence and expressed frustration with the FA’s handling of the case, citing a breach of confidentiality. Earlier in October, he took to X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I have instructed my lawyers to write to the FA to request that they conduct a thorough investigation into how information about the case, even if inaccurate, is finding its way into the public domain.”
