Parts of southern Spain have been severely impacted, experiencing “more than a year’s worth of rainfall” within just eight hours, with Valencia being one of the hardest-hit cities. This catastrophic weather has resulted in significant loss of life and widespread destruction. As a result, numerous sporting events have been postponed, including Real Madrid’s upcoming match against Valencia, leading to an outpouring of love, prayers, and support from various star athletes.

At least 95 lives have been lost in the southeast region of Spain, and there are reports of many individuals still unaccounted for. Valencia appears to be the most affected city, with images depicting overturned vehicles and devastated neighborhoods. Spain’s transport minister indicated that the high-speed rail line connecting Valencia and Madrid has sustained considerable damage.

Numerous top football players across Spain took to social media to express their condolences and support for those impacted by the floods. Luka Modric, Thibaut Courtois, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Jr. were among those who shared heartfelt tributes. Bellingham wrote on Instagram: “My deepest condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones due to the floods in Valencia. Sending lots of love and strength! ❤️❤️❤️”

In addition to the players, clubs like Barcelona observed moments of silence before training sessions and participated in social media tributes.

As the extent of the floods becomes clearer and rescue operations continue, more matches are being canceled. Warnings are also in effect for regions across Catalonia and northern Spain. While Spanish officials anticipate a reduction in storm activity in the affected areas in the coming hours, coastal regions will remain under weather alerts.
