Kvaratskhelia and Meret open up about Napoli’s Scudetto dream

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Alex Meret expressed their confidence in Napoli's Scudetto ambitions following a 2-0 victory against Milan.

Following a convincing 2-0 win away at Milan, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Alex Meret expressed their ambitions for Napoli’s Scudetto title. “We can achieve it again,” they stated confidently.

The victory was established in the first half at San Siro, where Romelu Lukaku netted the opening goal just five minutes in, followed by Kvaratskhelia, who skillfully cut in from the left to curl a right-foot shot into the far corner, marking his first goal at San Siro and his first against Milan.

“I worked hard for this moment, and the team displayed a strong mentality, deserving this win. We’re all thrilled,” Kvaratskhelia remarked to DAZN.

Reflecting on their past success, including winning the Serie A title the last time Napoli defeated Milan at San Siro in 2022, Kvaratskhelia remained optimistic. “Absolutely! We have a confident team that believes in ourselves, and we need to maintain this momentum. We know we can do it once more.”

As Kvaratskhelia enters his third season with Napoli, he shared his thoughts on welcoming Lukaku, the former Inter and Roma striker. “I told him Napoli has incredible fans, and he already knew about the city’s passion for football. He’s really enjoying his time here. He’s a kind and humble person and one of the team’s leaders. He’s a fantastic player, and everyone recognizes that.”

The Partenopei have been on a strong run, winning nine of their last ten competitive matches, scoring 23 goals and conceding only two in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, with their only draw being a 0-0 stalemate against Juventus.

This impressive streak is particularly notable given their season began with a disappointing 3-0 loss to Verona, but they have not looked back since then.

“I believe the team is functioning very well defensively. There’s a strong focus and dedication from everyone,” Meret told DAZN. “Tonight’s match was challenging, but we managed to close down spaces effectively, allowing Milan very few chances and securing three crucial points.”

Despite the challenges faced by the hosts, Meret identified his most challenging save. “My toughest save was definitely against Leao when he cut inside and struck hard. Those were three significant points for us.”

Kvaratskhelia holds a firm belief in Napoli’s chances for the Serie A title, but what about Meret? “We know we’re performing well, but it’s still early in the season to discuss the Scudetto. We just need to take it one game at a time.”
