The Italian winger, who transferred from Juventus to Liverpool for £10 million this summer, has struggled with ongoing injuries, limiting his playtime to just 78 minutes in three matches. His integration into the squad has also been affected by a disrupted pre-season at Juventus, where he was reportedly limited to low-intensity training with only a few teammates.

There is growing speculation in Italy about a potential loan back to Serie A for Chiesa during the winter transfer window. However, Slot has firmly dismissed these claims, emphasizing his commitment to helping the player regain his fitness for a more significant contribution at Anfield.

When asked about Chiesa’s future, Slot stated, “I haven’t thought about [parting ways with Chiesa] at all. Our priority is getting him fit again, and then we can evaluate his situation. He missed pre-season with Liverpool, and at Juventus, he was limited to low-intensity sessions, training with just three or four players away from the main group. Transitioning to a high-intensity league and playing style is challenging for any player, especially after a pre-season like that.”

The Liverpool manager highlighted the careful strategy the club has adopted for Chiesa’s recovery, aiming to balance physical training with a gradual return to full match readiness.

“We were aware of the situation and knew we had to be cautious in addressing his individual needs,” he explained. “However, it hasn’t been perfect yet, so we’re working on the right approach to build him up without overloading him, which has proven difficult thus far. I’m confident we will get there, but first, he needs to be fit.”

When pressed for a timeline on Chiesa’s return, Slot refrained from providing specific dates, noting the unpredictable nature of his injuries.

“It’s always tough to predict because his condition fluctuates,” Slot remarked. “Sometimes he trains with us for a few days, only to be sidelined again due to injury. I don’t want to impose any deadlines on him; our focus is on ensuring he reaches the best possible shape without added pressure.”

Chiesa will remain sidelined as Liverpool faces Brighton twice this week—first in the Carabao Cup at the AMEX Stadium, followed by a Premier League match on Saturday at Anfield.
