Napoli’s coach, Antonio Conte, has shared a brief update regarding the ongoing negotiations for a contract extension with star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. He noted that while discussions are taking place, the team has other priorities that need attention first.
Conte acknowledged that conversations between Napoli and Kvaratskhelia’s representatives have been happening for some time. However, he emphasized that the specifics of the negotiations are the responsibility of the sporting director to disclose.
The coach remains optimistic about Kvaratskhelia signing a new deal at the Stadio Maradona but stressed that he expects all players to maintain their full commitment through the end of the season, irrespective of their contract situations.
Conte praised the Georgian winger for fulfilling all expectations thus far this season and expressed his desire for a new contract to be finalized. Nonetheless, he admitted that in football, “anything can happen.”
“Discussions have been ongoing for a while now, and there are definitely conversations happening between the club and the player’s representatives,” Conte stated in his pre-Lecce press conference on Thursday.
“Detailing the specifics is the responsibility of the club and the sporting director; they will eventually handle the financial aspects.
“I won’t delve into particulars, but I can say that Kvara gives me everything I ask of him. He’s focused on this season, professional, and leads by example. This season is crucial for us, and I hope we can reach an agreement.
“However, I am aware that anything can happen in football, and an agreement must satisfy all parties. Regardless of the outcome, I ask everyone to stay at their best until the end of the season. We need to remain focused on our goals.”
