The French forward sustained a thigh injury during Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Alaves in La Liga and was initially projected to be sidelined for up to three weeks. However, in a positive development, Kylian Mbappe has been named in the squad for the upcoming midweek European match following a swift recovery.
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that a final decision on Mbappe’s involvement will depend on his training performance. The forward successfully completed Tuesday’s training session, but Ancelotti emphasized that the team would proceed with caution and avoid rushing him back into play.
“Mbappe has recovered well, very quickly,” Ancelotti informed the media. “Only yesterday he trained individually. He didn’t stop for long and he hasn’t lost his condition. Today (Tuesday) he will train the whole training session. We will make the most appropriate decision today, bearing in mind that we are not going to take any risks.”
He continued, “He has had an overload. They’re talking about (a) grade I (hamstring injury). In the old days, it was an overload. With the new technology, he’s fine. He’s here to play. We’re not going to take any risks. Obviously, if there is no risk, he will play from the first minute.”
Interestingly, Lille is also the club where Mbappe’s younger brother, Ethan, plays. Unfortunately, 17-year-old Ethan is out for several weeks due to a muscle injury, which postpones any chance of a brotherly matchup on the field.
Mbappe missed the recent 1-1 draw against Atlético Madrid, marking his first absence since transferring to Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain this summer. He has been in exceptional form, netting seven goals in nine appearances for his new team. If cleared to play, facing Lille will hold special significance, as it would be his first game back in France since departing PSG.
