On Tuesday, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan suffered a narrow defeat against reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, falling 1-0.

Despite creating three scoring opportunities and recording one shot on target, Pulisic couldn’t find a way past Leverkusen’s goalkeeper, Lukas Hradecky, who delivered an outstanding performance with five crucial saves to keep a clean sheet against the Rossoneri.

Milan attempted 17 shots during the match, but none proved successful.

With two losses in their opening UEFA Champions League matches, Milan now finds themselves in a must-win situation for their upcoming match against Club Brugge. The stakes will rise further in Matchday 4 when they face Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu, where they’ll contend with the formidable attacking lineup of Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, and Rodrygo. Securing three points against Brugge is essential for Milan.

These setbacks have raised concerns for head coach Paulo Fonseca, who replaced Stefano Pioli during the offseason. He is still searching for his first European victory and has only managed three wins out of six in Serie A this season.

Tuesday also marked the end of Pulisic’s impressive scoring run for club and country, having netted in five consecutive matches before this game. This season, he has tallied five goals and two assists for AC Milan.

The Rossoneri will look to bounce back in Serie A this weekend with a match against Fiorentina. Pulisic will aim to regain his scoring form ahead of the October international window, where he will join the USMNT for friendlies against Mexico and Panama.
