Barcelona legend Samuel Eto’o has been banned from attending Cameroon national team matches for six months. The ban, imposed by FIFA, is a result of Eto’o breaching two articles of FIFA’s Disciplinary Code. The breaches, related to “offensive behavior” and “misconduct,” occurred during a Women’s U20 World Cup match between Brazil and Cameroon.
Although details remain undisclosed, the ban prevents the 43-year-old from attending men’s and women’s Cameroon matches at all levels. Eto’o, who retired in 2019, currently serves as President of the Cameroonian Football Association. This incident comes just months after Eto’o was fined £150,000 by the African Football Confederation (CAF) for signing a deal with betting company 1XBET while serving as FA President.
He has denied any wrongdoing and appealed the decision. Additionally, in 2021, Eto’o received a 22-month suspended prison sentence and a £1.4 million fine for tax fraud. Despite his off-field controversies, Eto’o enjoyed a decorated playing career, winning three Champions Leagues and representing Cameroon 118 times.
