Manchester United had an eventful summer transfer window, with Manuel Ugarte emerging as one of their standout signings. The Uruguayan midfielder joined from Paris Saint-Germain for an initial fee of €50 million (£42.3m/$55m), with an additional €10 million (£8.5m/$11m) in potential add-ons. On his first day at Old Trafford, Ugarte was greeted by manager Erik ten Hag, who led him to a backdrop featuring the words “United & Fight” for a photo shoot.
While posing, Ten Hag pointed to the wall and told the club’s media, “This is good [pointing at the wall] because this guy brings us the fight.” Initially appearing puzzled, Ugarte later expressed, “It’s an honour for me to fight!”
Despite strengthening their squad with several signings, United have endured a rough start to the 2024/25 season. They’ve suffered two losses in their first three Premier League games, including a heavy defeat to arch-rivals Liverpool last Sunday.
Unveiled at Old Trafford during the Liverpool match, the 23-year-old could make his Premier League debut on September 14, when United face Southampton away.
