Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta suggests new signing as Gabriel Jesus faces injury in transfer window’s final stretch

Arteta acknowledged that Arsenal is currently lacking in attacking options, with Gabriel Jesus being the primary backup for Kai Havertz. He indicated that if a viable opportunity arises in the last few days of the transfer window, the club will likely pursue it.

Jesus missed the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa due to what the club described as a minor groin issue. Although Arteta had previously suggested that an additional forward wasn’t necessary, the absence of Jesus at Villa Park seems to have shifted his perspective. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is reportedly set to join Paris Saint-Germain, and Ivan Toney is rumored to be heading to the Saudi Pro League, leaving the club’s options uncertain.

Post-match, Arteta expressed satisfaction with the squad but admitted the team is a bit short due to Jesus’ injury. “We are really happy with the squad,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s true we had an injury with Gabriel Jesus and we missed him. We are a little bit short and if we can do something then we will do it.”

In the press conference, Arteta further explained the situation with Jesus, stating: “We have to see. Probably [Sunday] or Monday we’ll have the results to see if it’s a matter of days or weeks. We don’t know [how long he’ll be out for.”

The decision to pursue another forward will hinge on the severity of Jesus’ injury. With the transfer deadline only days away, Arsenal will need a swift medical assessment and a quick response if they decide that bolstering their attack is necessary.
