Concerns grew over Lionel Messi’s ankle injury when he was left out of Argentina’s September World Cup qualifiers, but he might make a quicker return to club action than initially anticipated.
Inter Miami manager Tata Martino has confirmed that Messi is showing promising progress in his individual training sessions and is expected to play at least some role for the team before the playoffs commence in late October.
Martino explained to reporters that while he couldn’t provide a specific timeline for Messi’s return, he did offer some clarity. “There is no set return date,” Martino stated. “It will depend on how Messi feels and the outcome of his training sessions.” However, when asked if Messi would feature again in the regular season, Martino confidently replied, “Yes.”
Messi has been sidelined for over two months, including time missed due to Copa America. He last played for Miami during their Leagues Cup campaign but was injured upon his return from international duty. Despite his absence, Miami advanced to the Round of 16 in the Leagues Cup and currently holds a five-point lead at the top of the Eastern Conference as MLS resumes this Saturday.
As Miami pushes towards the playoffs, Messi will continue his individual training. Although there’s no exact return date, it appears likely that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will rejoin the team before the playoffs begin. The regular season concludes on October 19.
