Mike Dean, the former Premier League referee, has embarked on a new football role as a commentator. A dedicated Tranmere Rovers fan, the 56-year-old stepped into the gantry to provide commentary for Tranmere Rovers Radio during the club’s Football League Trophy match against Everton U21s.

Dean’s commentary got off to an exciting start as Tranmere took an early lead with Josh Davison’s goal, but Everton turned the game around with two late goals, resulting in a 2-1 loss for the home side. Despite the result, Dean received praise from fans for his insightful analysis, with many expressing their admiration for his new role.

Dean retired from officiating after the 2021/22 Premier League season and transitioned to a full-time VAR official role with PGMOL. During his break from VAR duties, Dean also contributed to Sky Sports, offering his perspective on refereeing decisions during Soccer Saturday.
