Phil Foden added another accolade to his already impressive collection on Tuesday, securing the PFA Player’s Player of the Year award for the first time in his career. The England international earned the honor following an exceptional season under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Foden netted 19 goals in 35 Premier League matches, helping City secure their fourth consecutive league title. Remarkably, the 24-year-old now boasts six Premier League titles.
Foden overcame competition from Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, and Manchester City teammates Rodri and Erling Haaland to claim the prestigious award. Both Rodri and Haaland have since expressed their admiration for Foden, highlighting the high regard they hold for the Englishman.
Rodri praised his teammate, saying, “I’m so, so happy about Phil. To be honest he’s a very good kid, a very shy kid. For me, he has the ability to be the best English player in history when he finishes his career. He needs to keep the level up in his game, already he’s one of the best players in the league and in Europe. “I think he could get even better. The quality, ambition and hard work he has every day listening to old people like me is very important. He was outstanding last season and it’s the first season I saw him carrying the team on his back.”
Haaland echoed these sentiments, adding, “He’s a great guy, I really enjoy playing with him and joking with him. Phil is unbelievable, some of the stuff he does in training that no one sees is also incredible, I’m lucky to play with him.”
Foden is the first English player to win the PFA Player’s Player of the Year award since Wayne Rooney in 2010.
