Though transfer rumours persist, Salah seems poised to stay at Anfield for now. Dr. Ian Graham shared with the Liverpool Echo how he concluded four years ago that offering Salah a lucrative contract was the right move: “I analyzed Salah’s longevity, fully expecting to recommend a sale. This would have been in summer 2021 or 2022, I can’t recall exactly. But to my surprise, the analysis showed that Mo would continue performing at a high level for a few more years. You can’t replace Mo’s impact immediately; a younger player might reach his level eventually, but there’s no one out there today who can match what Mo Salah has brought to Liverpool since 2017.”
When asked if he would give similar advice in 2024, given Salah’s continued importance to the team, Graham said: “Working for Liverpool was an honor, but also a huge responsibility. I’m relieved that the weight of those decisions is no longer mine. Now, I just watch Liverpool as a fan. Personally, I’d love to see Mo Salah in Red for as long as possible, but I trust Liverpool’s leadership to make the best decision.”
Salah was on target in Liverpool’s 2024-25 season opener against newly-promoted Ipswich, where new manager Arne Slot started his tenure with a 2-0 win. The three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner now has 212 goals in 350 appearances for the Reds.
