Newcastle United have officially announced the return date for their midfielder Sandro Tonali, who will be eligible to play again on August 28, 2024, following the completion of his ten-month ban for breaching Italian betting regulations.

Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan last summer on a five-year deal but managed to play only a few matches before the ban, which started on October 26, took effect. The 24-year-old missed Euro 2024 due to the suspension, which officially ends on August 27. During his absence, Newcastle implemented a specialized training regime to keep Tonali physically and mentally fit. His first expected match back is likely to be Newcastle’s Carabao Cup clash against Nottingham Forest.

Eddie Howe has emphasized the club’s efforts to help Tonali maintain his sharpness and emerge stronger after this challenging period. Howe expressed optimism, noting that while the ban was difficult, it may help Tonali return as a better player. Newcastle begins their Premier League campaign this Saturday, welcoming Southampton to St James’ Park.
