Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for former Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso. Manager Erik ten Hag faces defensive issues with Luke Shaw sidelined due to a calf injury and Tyrell Malacia still recovering from knee surgery. United are short on left-back options, prompting them to explore free agents.

The Athletic reports that 33-year-old Alonso, who recently left Barcelona after his contract expired, is being discussed as a potential solution. Alonso, a former Champions League winner with Chelsea, made 212 appearances for the Blues, scoring 29 goals, before joining Barcelona, where he played only eight times last season due to a back injury.

United have bolstered their defense with the signing of right-back Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, whose versatility to play left-back adds flexibility. The club also signed Matthijs de Ligt in a combined deal worth £60 million. Meanwhile, they continue to be linked with PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte, as talks progress.
