The New York Red Bulls are negotiating a permanent transfer for Gremio midfielder Felipe Carballo, who would join Dante Vanzeir and Emil Forsberg as a Designated Player. According to GiveMeSport, the MLS team is working to finalize the deal before the summer transfer window closes on August 14.
With Frankie Amaya having moved to Liga MX’s Toluca earlier this window, the Red Bulls have been actively seeking a midfield replacement. Carballo, who has seven caps with Uruguay’s national team and made his debut in 2023 (though he did not make the Copa America squad), appears to be the solution.
Carballo, who has played 54 games for Gremio in Brazil’s Serie A since 2023, will bring significant experience. His career includes four league titles with Nacional, achieved during two separate stints (2015-2017 and 2019-2023) before moving to Gremio.
With the MLS transfer window closing this week, the Red Bulls are keen to complete the transfer swiftly. Carballo could potentially make his debut for the team in their next league match against Charlotte FC on August 24.
