Preston North End has dismissed manager Ryan Lowe just one game into the Championship season. The club announced that Lowe’s departure, mutually agreed upon, comes after a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United on the opening day.

Lowe, who joined Preston in December 2021, guided the team to 13th, 12th, and 10th-place finishes over his two-and-a-half years in charge. In the interim, first-team coach Mike Marsh, along with Peter Murphy and striker Ched Evans, will manage the team for the upcoming fixtures against Sunderland and Swansea City. Evans, who has a controversial past including a prison sentence and a retrial where he was acquitted, returns to football after a lengthy absence.

The club has expressed gratitude to Lowe for his contributions and is expected to announce a permanent replacement next week. Preston currently sits 23rd in the Championship, above only Plymouth Argyle.
