Chelsea’s move for Samu Omorodion collapses over image rights clause

Chelsea’s planned move for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion has fallen through after the club attempted to insert a controversial clause in his contract. The Blues had agreed on a £34.5 million deal, with Conor Gallagher set to move to Atletico in exchange.

However, negotiations broke down when Chelsea sought to acquire 50 percent of Omorodion’s image rights, a demand that reportedly left the 20-year-old feeling “disrespected.” This clause has likely closed the door on any future transfer. With Omorodion out of the picture, Chelsea has turned its attention to Atletico’s Joao Felix as a potential replacement.

Felix, who impressed during a loan spell at Stamford Bridge in 2023, is valued at £50 million, significantly more than Omorodion. The Blues have already spent over £150 million this summer, including a £54 million signing of Pedro Neto from Wolves, as they continue to strengthen their squad under Enzo Maresca.
