Milan’s initial €17m bid for France international Youssouf Fofana was swiftly turned down earlier in the transfer window. Despite this setback, the Rossoneri are set to make a new offer for the 25-year-old, even though Manchester United is also showing interest.

Fofana is one of two French midfielders Milan has been keeping an eye on this transfer window, with Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Kone, a player with a similar profile, also rumored to be a target for San Siro.

Fofana is entering the final year of his Ligue 1 contract. Anticipating his departure before the transfer window closes, Monaco set a €25m asking price for the former Strasbourg midfielder. However, following interest from Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and West Ham United, the asking price reportedly increased to around €35m.

Milan’s original offer was around €17m, with the expectation that they could negotiate a lower price due to Fofana’s contract situation.

Among the interested clubs, only Manchester United remains actively pursuing Fofana, with Erik ten Hag’s side still a potential contender, according to Calciomercato.com.

Reports indicate that Rossoneri director Geoffrey Moncada is working diplomatically to resolve the situation with Monaco. Milan may be ready to raise their offer to €20m and include a future sell-on clause, which could eventually allow Monaco to achieve their original €25m asking price.
