Sancho entered the match in the 83rd minute, following Alejandro Garnacho’s goal that had put United ahead. His significant contribution to the game was limited to the penalty shootout, where he missed a crucial penalty. As a result, City won the trophy after Jonny Evans also missed a spot-kick in sudden death, leading to a disappointing defeat for Ten Hag’s side at Wembley.

Returning to United this summer after his loan spell at Dortmund, Sancho came back as the German club could not afford to keep him permanently. Ten Hag noted that a ‘line had been drawn’ between him and Sancho after their previous disagreements, which had led to the winger’s exclusion from the first team.

Despite the loss, Ten Hag expressed confidence in Sancho’s abilities. “I had no doubts about him,” Ten Hag said. “He’s a very good penalty taker and missed today, but that’s part of the game. I’m confident he will continue to take penalties in the future.”

Sancho is anticipated to play a significant role for United in the upcoming weeks, especially with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee unavailable. Although he has mended his relationship with Ten Hag, his future remains uncertain, with interest from clubs like Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
