Liverpool is targeting Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season. The 25-year-old, who has been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United, has a release clause of £51.7 million, which Liverpool would need to pay in full if Sociedad does not agree to a lower fee.

Despite this, Liverpool faces the challenge of convincing Zubimendi to move, as previous interest from Arsenal and Barcelona has not swayed him. Zubimendi played a key role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory and impressed with his performance in the final against England. Liverpool’s midfield has seen significant changes with the departures of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, and Thiago.

New manager Arne Slot has been experimenting with various midfield setups but remains open to transfer options. Zubimendi’s agent, Inaki Ibanez, has strong connections with Liverpool’s sporting director, which could facilitate negotiations.
