Earlier this week, it was reported that Chelsea had renewed their interest in 20-year-old Samu Omorodion, and they have now reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for his transfer. Chelsea will pay £35m plus add-ons for the Spain Under-21 international, who will sign a seven-year contract following a successful loan spell at Alaves last season. In a separate deal, midfielder Conor Gallagher will move in the opposite direction.
Gallagher is set to travel to Madrid to finalize his £34m ($43.4m) transfer to Atletico. He might be joined by Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, whose move could reach up to £82m ($104m), setting a new club record for the Premier League champions. Although Atletico had initially stated that they would not sell Omorodion until they secured a replacement, the Alvarez deal is expected to proceed after a brief delay.
Omorodion, whose contract with Atletico runs until 2028, joined the club from Granada in 2023 but spent last season on loan at Alaves, where he scored eight goals in 35 appearances. He has yet to make his debut for Diego Simeone’s side.
It is uncertain when Omorodion will join Chelsea’s squad, as he is currently participating in the Paris Olympics with Spain. Meanwhile, Chelsea have returned to the UK after an unsuccessful pre-season tour in the United States and will play their final friendly against Inter on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
