Former Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus is poised to finalize a highly anticipated move to MLS, signing an 18-month contract with Los Angeles Galaxy, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Reus is expected to undergo medical examinations in the coming days and could be available to play for the Galaxy this season.
Reus arrives in the U.S. as one of the most accomplished players in recent Bundesliga history. He has been named Bundesliga Player of the Season three times, selected for the Team of the Season on six occasions, and led the league in assists during the 2013-14 season.
Over his 12-year tenure at Dortmund, Reus scored 170 goals and provided 131 assists, also serving as captain for five years.
In May, Reus expressed his gratitude in a statement about his departure from Dortmund: “I’m incredibly thankful and proud of my time at Borussia Dortmund. I’ve spent over half my life at this club and cherished every moment, despite the challenges.”
Rumors of Reus’ move to MLS have been circulating for months, with initial reports in May indicating his interest in playing in America and LA Galaxy’s interest becoming public in early June. The Galaxy currently lead the Western Conference by two points, although second-placed LAFC has two games in hand.
Reus is expected to complete his MLS transfer soon and will aim to strengthen the Galaxy’s pursuit of the MLS Cup.
