Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein is poised to join La Liga side Real Valladolid on loan. The Spanish club swooped in late, outbidding League One’s Charlton for the Gunners’ third-choice keeper. Hein, 22, played all three of Arsenal’s pre-season games in the U.S. while David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale were on an extended break after the Euros.

Despite signing a new deal in June, the plan was always for Hein to gain first-team experience on loan this season. Valladolid, owned by former Brazil striker Ronaldo, who shares a connection with Arsenal’s sporting director Edu, secured the move. Hein impressed in a pre-season match against Bournemouth, saving two penalties in a shootout victory. This will be his second loan spell, following a stint with Reading in the 2021-22 season.

Questions remain over Ramsdale, Arsenal’s No. 2, who seeks more first-team action after losing his No. 1 spot to Raya last season. Linked with moves to Chelsea, Newcastle, and Southampton, Ramsdale is expected to feature in the Emirates Cup this week as Arsenal prepares for their Premier League opener against Wolves on August 17.
